Travel Vaccine Clinic Serving Amherst, MA

Amherst residents and students can get travel vaccines at our Hadley clinic at 234 Russell St, Suite 208, right on Route 9 between Amherst and Northampton. That is about ten minutes from the UMass campus, on the PVTA bus corridor.

JmBee Travel Health serves UMass Amherst, Amherst College and Hampshire College students heading abroad, plus Pioneer Valley families planning international trips. We stock vaccines that pharmacies often have to special order, including yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, rabies and oral typhoid.

Our Hadley office is right on Route 9 with free parking on site, an easy stop between classes or on the way to Northampton. As an independent, locally owned clinic we keep visit and vaccine costs lower than the big corporate chains, and students can submit our itemized receipt with insurance codes to their health plans. We see study abroad students and traveling families from all over the Pioneer Valley, and friends traveling together can book one shared appointment. No referral is needed, and you can book online or just give us a call!

Studying abroad this year?

Book your travel vaccine visit four to six weeks before your program starts. Some programs and visas ask for proof of specific vaccines, and a few vaccines need more than one dose spaced weeks apart. Bring your program’s health requirements to your appointment and we will match them against CDC guidance for your country.

Research, fieldwork and volunteering

Rabies vaccination matters for wildlife fieldwork, veterinary placements and long stays in rural areas. Japanese encephalitis comes up for long programs in rural Asia. These are exactly the vaccines that are hardest to find on short notice, so plan early.

Amherst travel vaccine questions

How far in advance should I get vaccines for a trip?

Four to six weeks before you leave is ideal. Some vaccines need multiple doses or time to build protection. If you leave sooner, call anyway and we will prioritize what helps most.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, patients are seen by appointment only. Call (413) 200-4139. Phones are answered Monday through Thursday, 8am to 6pm.

Will my student insurance cover travel vaccines?

We are not in network with insurance plans, including student plans, so you pay at your appointment. Many plans do not cover travel vaccines, so check yours first. You will get an itemized Superbill with insurance codes to submit to your plan if you choose.

Can I get to the clinic without a car?

Yes. We are at 234 Russell St in Hadley, on the Route 9 PVTA bus corridor that runs between Amherst and Northampton.

How long do travel vaccines last?

It varies. Yellow fever protects most people for life. The typhoid shot lasts about two years and the pills about five. Two doses of hepatitis A protect for decades.
